Unlike other Chinese communities that arrived earlier, the Hainanese struggled to establish their businesses in a market dominated by other dialect groups. Instead, they took on roles as servants and chefs for the British colonial masters.

However, the resourceful Hainanese quickly adapted to the British and other dialects' food, and with their ingenuity, they created their own uniquely Singaporean Hainanese cuisine.

At The Hainan Story, it is our dream to introduce this cuisine, which was discovered and developed by our forefathers, with a modern twist.
