Description

Gyu Nami by Gomalicious is a dining establishment that has made a name for itself with its affordable and delicious Wagyu Beef Bowls. Previously known for its stall at Amoy Street Food Centre, Gyu Nami has now expanded and opened a shop in the bustling heart of Orchard Road.

Despite the new location, one thing remains unchanged: the bowls are still priced at an incredibly reasonable $10 each. This affordability factor has contributed to the success of other hawker stall owners who ventured into opening their own eateries or restaurants, such as Hai Kee Brothers, Fook Kin, and Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodle Bar.

The basement of Orchard Gateway is where you'll find the new Gyu Nami, taking over the space previously occupied by Alfero Gelato and Andiamo Gelato. However, it may not attract as much foot traffic due to its less conspicuous position. Nevertheless, the Signature Wagyu Roast Beef Don is still available for $10, with a larger option at $13. For an additional $2, you can make it a set with miso soup and mochi, although personally, I wasn't particularly interested in the mochi.

The roasted wagyu beef slices served at Gyu Nami are consistently soft, tender, and generously portioned, boasting that desirable pink hue on the surface. The sous vide egg and creamy yoghurt sauce complement the dish, providing moisture and a touch of stickiness to prevent any dryness. While the presentation may not be as tall and well-executed as depicted in the posters or compared to what was experienced at Amoy Street, this is understandable given the higher rental costs in the town area.

In addition to the classic Wagyu Beef Bowl, Gyu Nami also offers an Ungai Don for $12, featuring a hidden sous vide egg beneath the eel. However, it's worth noting that the portion size may not be sufficient for those with hearty appetites.

While the Orchard crowd can be unpredictable, attracting a mix of locals and tourists, CBD diners often seek a quick-fix lunch option and are more likely to appreciate the affordable $10 Roast Beef Bowls regardless of the weather. As Gyu Nami establishes its presence as a shop, the young owners may consider experimenting with additional options, such as larger bowl sizes, side dishes, and streamlining the assembly process to cater to a wider range of preferences and demands.
